TRENDS I’M WATCHING
This section is where I’ll share favorite podcasts and youtube content which does a good job of diving into the nuances of important trends
Personal Productivity: I’ve had 2.5 people ask me in the last two days, “how do work on so many random things and switch your focus so often?”
I pointed them towards the system I published on day 2:
(Day 2/60): Uncovering how I plan to organise myself while experimenting with multiple business ideas
Cool fact of the day: On this date, April 25th 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope was first placed into orbit by the space shuttle named ‘Discovery’
In short, my system for remote work is quite simple.
(1) I only do things I enjoy, or, things that grow my networth more than 1% in a given month. Anything other than that, I simply won’t do rn. So the key is finding the things you enjoy and monetizing them somehow.
(2) I divide my days into halves, and by topic. For example, when I work on Project A. I will set time aside during the first half of my day as “me time.” This enables me to do the heads down work I need. And then I’ll schedule meetings into the second half of the day, but I’ll only schedule meetings relevant to the stuff I was working on that morning for Project A. The next day, I’ll do something similar but for Project B. This enables me to schedule my days ahead of time without worrying too much about having to take on unrelated tasks back to back.
(3) I don’t set an alarm, you heard that right. ANd, I never (rarely ever) schedule any meetings before 1:30 PM EST. This ensures I have time each day for myself, specifically in the morning where I can go through my routines. By not setting an alarm, it enables me to wake up naturally when my REM cycle is complete.
Here’s your visual reminder to work smarter, not harder.
Threads vs Twitter: I wish I liked using Twitter more, I’ve tried loving it for years but just never found it personally interesting.
With that in mind, I tried Threads. In my own personal experience, it was full of bugs (ironically, it couldn’t even let me write a thread).
So I’m watching both these platforms closely as they are powerful once you scale your following, but I’m not jumping at either one currently.
Here’s a great breakdown of Meta Threads vs Twitter.
Real estate market / home pricing data: You need to divide prices between existing homes and new homes on the market. You see a noticeable delta; existing home prices have dropped 1% YoY, but new home prices have dropped 15%. Why the discrepancy? Because with rising mortgage rates home owners aren’t willing to turnover the keys because it would mean taking on a new mortgage at higher rates. However, developers finishing up their project are forced to sell and take what the market gives them. Therefore, even though new housing only accounts for ~1 out of every 6 homes sold, it’s a good indicator of where the market is going. Down.
It’s apparent to me that the RE market is taking a turn for the worst as we speak (IMHO). And likely it would be the first domino to fall in a recession, since banks hold a lot of paper for loans backed by valuable properties.
Fake Content: The internet is so messed up. Jackie Chan had a very emotional moment go viral. It was him with his daughter as they watched his old action stunts. They were crying. She was so proud. And then after millions of views… turns out it was fake. It was just a scene from a movie. Not only that, but apparently Jackie disowned his own daughter for her being a lesbian in 2017, and so not only was the internet mad about the fake video but they canceled him for that fact once they found it out. The web is truly a wild place. It’s hard to believe anything you read anymore from mainstream media, or in this case, even individual small independent instagram accounts. It makes you think, if a movie clip can be rebranded as a home video and go viral, what other lies are out there? a lot
IDEAS I’M BUILDING
This section is where I”ll share what ideas I’m working on, they could be anything
-I’m working through the first few weeks of a 12 month project I’m excited to tell you all about. But in due time. It involves a big global brand and AR/VR.
-I’m planning on closing my largest client deal so far in the next 2 weeks, keeping fingers crossed. I’ll be working on the proposal today.
-I am on week 4 of a 12 week course where I sit down with a group of founders every Wednesday and we take online courses together about how to grow your following online. This is so fun to learn about, and I believe there’s a big business to be built around content. With only one more day left in my 60 day challenge… I can’t wait to unveil what’s next… ;)
I grew my impressions by 2K% over a 365 day period, that was before I started taking this course. With these new lessons in hand, I believe I can double my following on LinkedIn this year (taking me to 20K). I also believe I can build an automated system which monetizes content. More to come as I explore these next 8 weeks.
GOALS I’VE ACCOMPLISHED
This section is where I cover recent thing that have gone right
-Gained weight and got back up to 200 as a result of working hard at my desk. Said, “nuh uh” and busted my ass in the gym the last 4 weeks, including getting back on a FreshNLean meal plan. Down to 192 again LFG 🙏. It’s interesting as I get to know my body better how I can basically estimate my overall weight according to how I feel. The short of it, I feel wayyyy better when I’m between 185-195, but my stomach is used to eating enough food for 192, so it’s good if I hover around 190.
REMEMBERING THE PIONEERS
This section is where I’ll honour and say thanks to a legendary #Builder
