Day 58/60: She hosted a 20K person music festival, worked at SVB, and now she's building a tech startup
Meet the one-&-only, DENISHA!
You can listen to my podcast with Denisha here:
You can subscribe to her Substack here:
She sits at the intersection of Music x tech x venture. With a unique perspective on Fandom. And that’s why she founded Stan (influenced by the name of Eminem’s song).
She first started getting interested in Substack when Gimlet and Anchor sold to Spotify ($250M). She wrote an article about it…. and viola, it went viral. She now has a ton of the who’s-who on the business side of music that is following her – Labels, artists, execs.
She breaks down the venture side of music in our podcast. Highlighting 3 key areas:
Music tech
Creator economy
Music Adjacent Tech (bio metric security for concerts)
I asked who are the investors, she mentions Techstars music, Core venture arms of major labels, WME, Angel checks from prior execs: Troy Carter, Mike Ovitz, Connect ventures (CAA + NEA).
She herself raised $350K from the likes of Angels who are partners at USV.

As a ‘side project’ she also… hosted a 20K person music festival in Ghana….!
With features from Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa (well known artists working with the likes of Jay Z, etc…)
Denisha was formerly at SVB, so it’s fascinating to hear her perspective about ‘how artists are like startups?’
These podcast are available a limited time on Youtube, then I’m taking them down and launching them properly :)
